Ten years ago I was on the first helicopter headed to the gulf coast after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. I rode with Governor Barbour as he surveyed the Gulf Coast in an open door Huey for the first time, seeing first hand the devastation from this historic storm. I stayed with Mississippi Emergency Management documenting the first two weeks of the States response to Hurricane Katrina and the devastation is left in its wake. I continued to photograph Hurricanes Katrina over the next three years. Photo ©Suzi Altman
